Sky Sports Update: 116 BPL Games
Sky Sports Update
Recently BT announced they would be launching their own sport channel with Barclays Premier League coverage. This has put increasing pressure on Sky by stealing 38 games for BT to air. To make it worse for Sky BT are claiming to offer their sport coverage free for this year when you buy BT broadband. This has all started to put pressure on Sky to up their game to stop themselves losing customers and money. As well BT’s service is nearly half the price of Sky’s this creates even more incentive for a Sky customer to move to BT. However Sky have now upped their game. They will now air 116 Barclays Premier League games this season to provide more entertainment for their viewers despite their added costs of doing so. They have also played their hand early and have bagged two of the most anticipated games on the first day of the season. David Moye’s and Jose Mourinho’s first competitive league matches of the season, whereas BT’s best match will be a less exciting Liverpool vs. Stoke. For some Sky will have the upper hand as well in punditry. Sky already have a very experienced and very well liked punditry team who offer insightful analysis of each half a long with up to date statistics for added interest for the viewer. On the other hand BT are promising a more relaxed and less formal service which can also draw people away form Sky’s service, along with the addition of current and former footballers such as Rio Ferdinand.
Sky Sports Competition
BT have other incentives as well. They promise to provide games from other leagues around the world. These leagues will include the Bundesliga in Germany, Ligue 1 in France, Serie A in Italy, Liga de Brazil in Brazil, FA Cup coverage, UEFA Cup coverage and Scottish Premier League, and there is a possibility of second league action from the foreign leagues as well. Where as Sky only offer Liga BBVA from Spain. For Sky this is causing problems. They are no longer the top dog that everybody has to come to, to view high quality sport. They now have a rival service which promises to be equally as good if not better that will provide the same high quality sport for nearly half the price, or if you buy the correct package it is available for free. Sky is going to have to increase the quality of their service if they wish to beat BT at their own game. For more information on Sky's services visit their website: http://www.sky.com/
